Producer Information
Celler Cal Pla was founded in 1814, when the Priorat wine region was undergoing a major wine transformation. Since then, eight generations dedicated to working in the vineyards and making wine, which has left us to this day an extraordinary old winery and vineyards up to one hundred years old. Also recognized with the wine award and diploma in 1929. The name of Cal Pla is the name of the house and their family, now also passed on to the wines. In the beginning started making “bulk wine” but since 1996 under the leadership of Joan Sangenís (the youngest of the family who also studied oenology) makes beautiful boutique wines with the most up-to-date oenological techniques. The Cal Pla family owns 6 farms in the municipality of Porrera with a total of 50 hectares of planted land. The varieties they consist of are: very diverse, from Carignan and Grenache to grapes not often seen in Priorat namely Picapoll Blanc and the Trepat Blanc. All the wines are produced from grapes grown in their own vineyards and bottled in their wine cellar. In the wine cellar they use cement tanks, stainless steel tanks and 350 different oak barrels with capacities (225L, 300L and 500L). The production of grapes is around 140,000 kg depending on the harvest.
