Reviews:

  • Wine Advocate: Denis Dubourdieu has a created a fine Doisy-Daene, with attractive white peach and honeysuckle on the precise bouquet, which exudes wonderful transparency. The palate is very well-defined with fine acidity, the oak deftly integrated. It gradually builds in the mouth: harmonious and refined with great composure towards the long and satisfying finish. This is one of the finest Barsac wines of the vintage.
    Barrel Sample: 93-95
  • James Suckling: A tight and compressed young Sauternes with masses of botrytis spice character of white pepper and mushroom dust. Dried apples and lemons. Full body, yet agile and lively. Sweet yet fresh finish. Structured young Sauternes.

Producer Information

Château Doisy-Daëne is an esteemed estate known for its sweet white wines, located in the Barsac commune within Bordeaux. It is a Grand Cru Classé Second Growth under the classification of 1855, which took place in Sauternes and Barsac at the same time as the famous classification of the Médoc and Graves. Doisy-Daëne has been owned by the Dubourdieu family since 1924. The estate makes three wines from 18 hectares (45 acres) of vineyard. These are planted mostly to Semillon, with a small portion of Sauvignon Blanc. The Grand Vin is thus predominantly Semillon, and is made from botrytis-affected grapes. In exceptional vintages, a second wine called L’Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne is made as well, although this is designated under the Sauternes appellation. Barsac is the only one of the five villages within the Sauternes viticultural area to have its own appellation. L’Extravagant takes advantage of laws that allow estates to choose between the two designations.
