Producer Information
Podere Poggio Scalette is a Tuscan wine estate within the prized Chianti Classico region but better known for its Super Tuscan-style wines produced and released under the Alta Valle della Greve IGT title. Sangiovese is the dominant variety, although Merlot plays an important role in Scalette’s wines as well.Often simply referred to as Poggio Scalette, the estate was established in 1991 by Vittorio Fiore and Adriane Assjè, when they bought a disused farm. The winery and vineyards are in the hilly commune of Ruffoli, near the town of Greve in Chianti within the Chianti Classico region. While the estate remains best-known for its IGT releases, it also produces a Chianti Classico from 100 percent Sangiovese. The property was expanded in 1996 with the purchase of neighboring land, and again in 2007, ultimately adding more cellar space, winemaking facilities and vineyards.
