Pasadena Wine Team Thanksgiving Pick
Our Pasadena wine team was asked to choose a wine worthy of recommending for your Thanksgiving fare. We quickly realized our recommendation must “stand up” to the plethora of entrees served on the Holiday of elastic waistbands and tryptophan, it must “measure up” to Mom’s mashed potatoes and gravy and put some “giddy up” in your grandma’s green bean casserole. Someone picked up a bottle of 2024 Clemens Krutzler Mash-Up, and joked “This wine is labeled Mash-Up, perfect for mashed potatoes” – then we remembered how fantastic this wine tasted, and our choice was clear!
This lighter-bodied red wine from Austria reminded us of a good Cru Beaujolais. A lightly herb-y nose, bright spicy red fruits, and a tangy, mineral-accented finish. After more research, the minerality makes perfect sense- the vines grow in the Eisenberg (Iron Mountain) area, famed for its iron rich soils. Fermenting with native yeast, briefly ageing in neutral oak, and adding only minimal sulfur allows the terroir to.shine through.
All that geology and biodynamic oenology results in a lively, fresh, and versatile wine with the agility to pair with the whole Thanksgiving table! Look for your bottles in the cooler in Pasadena- we think it shows well lightly chilled- and enjoy!
