Description
It’s been incredibly satisfying to see the age statements once again reach double digits when selecting single barrels of Bourbon from Kentucky.
Just a few years ago we were barely able to find 8 year old casks of Four Roses during our annual visits, but 2025 has brought the return of 10 year old barrels into the mix—to our delight! Our latest 10 year, 3 month old OBSO barrel is one of the best of that bunch.
The Four Roses OBSO recipe refers to a specific combination of mash bill and yeast strain used in their Bourbon production. It combines the “B” mash bill (60% corn, 35% rye, 5% malted barley) with the “O” yeast strain, known for its fruity and rich flavor profile. This unique pairing results in a Bourbon with a distinctive character, featuring a spicy kick from the rye balanced by the fruity notes imparted by the “O” yeast strain.
Bottled at 59.2% ABV, this particular 10 year specimen nearly creeps into the 60% range, bringing serious punch with every sip. The vanilla is front and center, followed by red fruits and oak spices, and the herbaceous from the rye dominates the finish. What really stands out, however, is how complete the whiskey is. Unlike some of the younger barrels we’ve bottled in the past, this whiskey has a beginning, a middle, and an end. It’s a perfect journey of richness, texture, spice, and heat.
