This whiskey is distilled in Kentucky and bottled in Austin, Texas where it is blended with “limestone filtered water from the Texas Hill Country”. Aged in charred American oak barrels. It was introduced to the market by Austin Spirits just in time for Austin City Limits festival in 2014. Its name derives from the nine-banded armadillo, Texas’s official state small mammal, as well as a shout out to the Armadillo World Headquarters, a beloved, but defunct music venue in Austin.

Nine Banded Small Batch 3 Year Old Whiskey Tasting Notes

Nose: This is a soft whiskey despite its higher proof, with ample Cracker Jack on the nose — including some peanut character amidst the caramel corn.

Palate: The palate is highly, surprisingly approachable at full strength, with the popcorn notes of young, corn-heavy spirit almost impossible to get around.

Finish: The finish is long and balanced.

Distillery Information

Headquartered in Atchison, Kansas, MGP began in 1941 as a small distillery operation in the heart of America’s grain belt. Founder Cloud L. Cray, Sr., felt the Company’s location and existing infrastructure were an ideal base from which to grow a successful business that would serve the needs of its customers.
