Sign of the Times is a reflection of the uncanny moment we find ourselves in. The linebetween real and surreal has begun to dissolve. For this label, Dave was inspired by anAI model which took his past artwork to and generated new interpretations. Going backand forth, the model and Dave prompted each other to reflect on the past while using itas a starting point for a new experiment. This label portrays something new andreimagines what has already been done.
An opaque fuchsia core and a crimson laced rim introduces one to the 2023 Sign of theTimes. Pleasing opening aromatics have notes of black plum, blackcurrant, darkchocolate, and leather. The palate centers the attention with tones of blue fruits , morecassis , a hint of licorice and sweet oak. Well integrated tannins keep the wineapproachable in its youth while the balancing acidity gives it some aging potential.BLEND Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Syrah, and Grenache.
Orin Swift Cellars was founded by Dave Phinney in 1998 in Napa Valley, California. Thewinery’s name combines Phinney’s father’s middle name (Orin) and his mother’smaiden name (Swift). Phinney’s winemaking journey began in 1995 after a study abroadsemester in Florence, Italy, where he became captivated by wine. He started by makingsmall batches of wine while working for other wineries, with his first vintage consisting ofjust two tons of zinfandel. The winery gained prominence with its flagship wine, ThePrisoner, which was eventually sold to Huneeus Vintners in 2010, and thento Constellation Brands in 2016. Today, Orin Swift Cellars manages five different brandsacross five locations and maintains an active wine club.
