The spirit is matured for 12 years in American ex-bourbon oak barrels (via a solera-style or extended age process) before bottling. The name “Cinabrio” references the red hue of cinnabar and the Mayan sun god Kinich Ahau, while the brand draws on the local heritage of the ancient city of Cihuatán.
