Zuidam Korenwijn 7 years PX Single Barrel 100cl

Grain eau de vie (malt wine) is distilled from equal parts rye, cornand malted barley. The corngives a rich sweetness, the rye gives spicy notes and the malted barley provides the backbone. The new distillate is distilled four times in a small pot still. Then the distillate is partially distilled a fifth time with carefully selected herbs such as juniper, liquorice root and anise seed. Finally, the malt wine is joined with the other ingredients and the alcohol content is reduced to 45% for lagering in small wooden barrels.

Tasting note

Nose

Rich and balanced with upfront notes of chocolate and orange. Followed by honey and the spiciness of marjoram, bay leaf and liquorice. Later, the spiciness disappears a little and the citrus and chocolate develop even more.

Taste

Rich and full-bodied. Orange and the rich typical notes of PX-Sherry such as honey licorice, sultanas and chocolate.

Finish

Very long with fine chocolate and orange notes.
